Ba-di-ya! I feel like this tune belongs to the southern hemisphere more than the north – it may be about reminiscence, but its groove is full of spring. Is there any tune more ecstatic, any jingling guitar and nimble bass more likely to put a smile on your face and a skip in your step? And those continually blossoming flat-seventh-over-tonic chords (the example before the first verse is the most prominent, but every verse and chorus ends with them) are radiant with promise and joy.
Big shout-out to writer/comedian Demi Adejuyigbe, whose annual dancing tributes from 2015-21 got more and more outlandish – culminating in the full song in ’21- without ever losing sight of its infectious spirit.
